Instructions and Help about usmca form template

[Music] A NAFTA Certificate of Origin is the official form used to get the duty-free benefit of the free trade agreement. You want this benefit because it makes what you're selling less expensive for your Canadian or Mexican buyers. This certificate of origin does not determine whether your goods get imported because it's not an entry document. At first glance it looks like any other form, but it's not. It is a legal document, and it carries liability if it contains information that is knowingly false. There are 11 fields on the form. Number One is the exporter company name, address, and tax I.D. number. Number Two, the blanket period can be left blank. Next, you should have information at your fingertips to complete fields three through seven. Next are the fields that give people the most trouble. They are Number Seven, preference criteria, Number Eight, producer, Number Nine net cost, and Number Ten country of origin. Field Seven requires information on any foreign components used in production. To read more on the preference criteria open the text file on the same page as this video window. In our next segment we'll look more closely at other fields on the NAFTA Certificate of Origin that could cause you some problems your first time through it. [Music]

The USMCA Certificate of Origin is used to certify that a product was made in one of the USMCA countries (United States, Mexico, or Canada). This document is used to prove the origin of the product and may be requested by customs and border protection agents when goods are imported and exported between these countries. It helps facilitate trade between the USMCA countries by ensuring that goods meet the requirements of the agreement.
The USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement) certificate of origin must include the following information: 1. Exporter's name, address, and contact information: This refers to the company or individual sending the goods. 2. Producer's name, address, and contact information: This is the manufacturer or supplier of the goods, which might be different from the exporter. 3. Importer's name, address, and contact information: This is the company or individual in the importing country who is responsible for receiving the goods. 4. Description and HS code of the goods: The certificate must provide a detailed description of the goods being exported, along with the corresponding Harmonized System (HS) code, which is an internationally recognized classification system for products. 5. Preference criterion: This indicates how the goods meet the requirements for preferential treatment under the USMCA. It must accurately state which specific rule of origin the goods satisfy. 6. Blanket period: If applicable, a certificate can cover multiple shipments of identical goods within a defined period, known as a "blanket period." 7. Signature and date: The certificate must be signed and dated by the exporter or producer or their authorized representative. It is important to note that the specific requirements and format of the USMCA certificate of origin may vary slightly between the United States, Mexico, and Canada, as each country may have its own unique regulations and templates.
The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) has specific provisions regarding the late filing of a Certificate of Origin. If a party fails to submit the Certificate of Origin at the time of importation, they may still submit it within one year of the date of importation. However, if the Certificate of Origin is submitted after that one-year period, the preference claimed under the USMCA may be denied. The penalty for late filing would be the loss of preferential treatment and potential additional duties or tariffs imposed on the goods. It is important to note that penalties may vary depending on specific circumstances and any relevant regulations or guidelines set forth by the respective customs authorities.
